Madeleine Laitz

Researcher probing the physics of next-generation nanotechnology with the aim of bridging fundamental research and societal impact

About

My doctoral work at MIT, entitled “Light-Matter Interactions in High Efficiency Photovoltaics, Light-Emitting Devices, and Strongly Coupled Microcavities”, was supervised by Vladimir Bulović, Keith Nelson, and Farnaz Niroui. Before my time at MIT, I received my MS in Chemistry as a US-UK Fulbright Scholar at Imperial College London in 2017. My interests are at the intersection of semiconductor device physics and spectroscopy. A major focus of my research is understanding strong light-matter interactions in hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors, in which photons couple with excitons to form quasi-particles known as exciton-polaritons that have characteristics of both light and matter.
